Frequently Asked Questions

How do yer’ legendary one-month plant guarantee work?

We offer a one month guarantee on all plants we sell, because we’re so confident that we’ll get you the right plants for your tank and healthy plants. In case your plants were dead on arrival, please see the FAQ below, as we handle that a little differently.

If your plants happen to die within one month of delivery, we’ll be happy to credit the full cost of that plant to you in store credit. However, you will need to do this stuff first:

  1. Please reach out to us before the plant is completely dead. If you plant the plant and it doesn’t seem to be growing, seems to be melting or browning, etc then please reach out to us via email, chat, Instagram, reddit, or whatever else. We’ll offer you some advice on how to keep the plant healthy and make sure you’re doing everything right to keep that plant alive.

  2. You can verify the “Tech Level” of your tank (See below FAQ for info). Some plants will only grow in higher tech tanks with high nutrients, CO2, light, etc. If you purchased a High Tech plant but your tank falls under the “Low Tech” category, we can’t guarantee your plants since they’re being grown in the wrong conditions. Again, please reach out to us before purchase and we’ll make sure you get the right plants!

  3. You send us an image of the dying plant, before it is completely melted away. This is just so we know the plant is in fact dead and you’re not mooching free plants (even though that would be a very pirate thing to do!)

More details on our policies are available on our About page.

Do me tank be low tech or high tech?

“Low Tech” tanks generally mean tanks with an inert substrate, standard lighting, and no CO2. If your tank has gravel or sand and your light isn’t specifically meant for plants, then it is most likely a low tech tank. These tanks can grow most plants great with fertilizers and root tabs, but some plants may look a little duller.

“Mid Tech” tanks use a better substrate like dirt capped with sand, aquasoil, or a nutrient substrate like Stratum, as well as a better ‘full spectrum’ plant light. A mid tech tank may also be a tank using simple CO2 like the yeast CO2 systems that supplement a little CO2 but not nearly as consistently or as much as a true CO2 system. These tanks can generally grow almost any plants, but higher tech plants may melt away without consistent CO2 and high lighting.

“High Tech” tanks are specifically defined as tanks using a high end light such as Fluval, Chihiros, Twinstar, etc as well as CO2 injection and high nutrients in the substrate and water column. These tanks can generally grow any plants and plants will look by far the most vibrant in these tanks.

If you aren’t sure which your tank is, feel free to ask us!

Do yer plants have snails or pests?

Aye, we have ramshorn snails in nearly all of our tanks. They help keep the tank clean and algae free. So think of it as a freebie, some plants may come with free bonus snails! Naturally, plants may have a small amount of algae on them as well. We’re happy to bleach-dip your plants before shipping (Please just ask!).

We guarantee that, other than snails, you won’t have to worry about anything else coming with your plants. We take pride in keeping our tanks clean and safe, so if you encounter any issues and can confirm the issue was caused by our plants, please let us know and we’ll be happy to give you half of your plant’s value back in store credit.

What size and type o’ plants come with me treasure?

We offer a different approach on plants. Most of our plants and bundles offer smaller portions than you might find elsewhere, but at a much better price. Why? Plants grow! Why pay twice as much for a plant when you’ll have twice as much a week after planting anyway?

Most plants also grow to adapt in your tank, so old leaves will melt away and new growth will appear shortly after planting which will be far more colorful and healthy. We’re happy to sell entirely submerged plants, which won’t melt away and will generally be much healthier in your tank.

Because of these factors, most plants will include 3-4 healthy stems cut about 4” long. Smaller plants will include a sizeable clump unless otherwise listed. If you would like larger plants, please order our large plant bundles!

Also, remember that any emersed plant (available at most major online sites like Buceplant, Aquarium Plants Factory, etc) will melt their emersed leaves a few weeks after you submerge them. This is especially important to remember for new tanks, because you’ll start seeing leaf melt right around the time your cycle is complete which may cause massive algae outbreaks. Buy submerged plants and avoid this issue!

Arr, How do ye ship?

We ship all of our orders using UPS, and we’ll occasionally upgrade shipping speeds free of charge to ensure a timely and safe delivery.

All shipments with living things include free foil/foam insulation packets as well as all-natural perlite insulation to ensure your items arrive safe and sound. You can even reuse the perlite as a filter media!

We ONLY SHIP TO THE UNITED STATES! We unfortunately cannot ship to Hawaii, Alaska, or any US territories due to the delay and excessive shipping cost.

What if me booty be dead on arrival?

If your order isn’t perfect, please take a picture of it as soon as you can after delivery. We don’t put any “2 hours after delivery” requirements because we understand life can get in the way, but please do notify us ASAP if anything is wrong with your delivery. We reserve the right to deny DoA claims on a case by case basis if you take longer than 5 hours after delivery to notify us for live animals, or 24 hours for plants, purely because live things sitting outside in extreme temperatures will kill them.

Please do not dispose of any dead plants or animals until you have photographed them and send the photos to us!

We will be happy to send out free replacement orders or provide store credit refunds depending on what didn’t make it through shipping.

How do I return me treasure?

If you aren’t happy with your order or wish to return anything, please contact us and we’ll make it right on a case by case basis. Please beware that, normally, live plants and animals are not able to be returned, however if you aren’t happy with your purchase please let us know and we’ll make it right.

If you purchased any nonliving items from us and wish to return them, please send us a chat or email and we will happily offer you a refund and full postage paid for the return. Please note that we do have a 20% restocking fee for opened or used items.

How do I add me products to me tank?

Plants can be added right in! We recommend using tweezers to plant plants in the substrate. Remember that epiphytes like Java Fern, Anubias, and Bucephalandra should be attached to hardscape, not buried in the substrate. You can also split stem plants if you wish, as long as the cutting is about 2” long you can safely replant stem cuttings and get more stems.

Shrimp and live animals should be drip acclimated. We recommend you open the bag and immediately add one drop of ammonia neutralizer like Prime or Aqua Essential, then drip acclimate the animals for about 20-30 minutes to ensure they can safely be added to the tank. A drip acclimation kit can be added to your order for a low price as well.

Which plants come in me treasure Bundle?

Most plant treasure bundles do not guarantee any specific plants, but we’ll be happy to try our best to include any plants you request, or anything similar! Please be sure to tell us which type of plant you’d like, which color, etc or even include photos of your tank! We’re happy to chat with you to help build a perfect plant pack for you as well.
